Abstract:

Aim: The anti-cancer potential of gecko swinhonis G_uenther on hepatocellular carcinoma has been proved, so we have investigated the anti-cancer effects of Cyrtopodion scabrum, the local gecko of Iran, whole body extract on colon cancer cell line (SW 480).

Method: The cell line was treated by the whole body extract, as test and cytoxan anti-cancer drug was applied as positive control. The growth rate of the cells during 7 days was compared to control via MTT assay.

Result and Conclusion: Results showed that the whole body extract of Cyrtopodion scabrum suppressed cell growth up to 50% in day 7, while this amount for cytoxan, the chemical drug was 20%, compared to control. So it may suggest for a natural drug to fight cancer and use it in therapeutic purpose in the future.

Keywords: anti-cancer drug, Cyrtopodion scabrum, animal whole body extract.
